Based on feedback during community meetings, ensuring our seniors can be cared for close to home is a priority. The big difference we offer is that close to home means in a rural community where a welcoming, caring and community spirit is as natural as the sunrise. While big-city homes are professional and aligned with urban living, that welcoming and compassionate community spirit is sometimes not as evident.

Is the concept of Butterfly Homes being considered.
As my father is in long term care & living in the lower sunless level of this home, I witness a great need for a holistic approach.
I trust Dr. David Sheard will be considered.

Hi Helen. Thank you for the terrific question! Over the past summer a team of clinicians from West Perth Village (Ritz Lutheran Villa & Mitchell Nursing Home) toured three of the top dementia care facilities in southwestern Ontario. After careful consideration and taking feedback from many other practitioners, a consensus decision was reached to revamp our facility to model a Gentle Persuasion Approach (GPA) that encompasses a resident-focused approach with more 1 to 1 time. The GPA model emulates many of the same characteristics of the Butterfly Model. We will also be creating new spaces for individuals living with dementia… Read more »

Hi Lorraine,
Thank you for this question!

The Tripartite Agreement evolved into a permanent and stronger partnership between Knollcrest, Ritz Lutheran Villa (WPV) and HPHA. Those partnerships include shared IT, Human Resource, and Materials Management. The outcomes for both homes is the delivery of a more responsive service that helps to ensure our residents get the care they need in a more timely fashion! It has been awesome!

Will this continue to be a not for Profit? Who chose the name and to Remove the Ritz name from the title? What are the actual dimensions of the rooms, as I found it hard to see on the drawings. I would think a good answer of the country vs the city people also don’t like institutional looking buildings. Farm homes have had high ceilings and tall windows with windowsills for plants or to sit a cuppa on while enjoying the sunlight. Hip roofs of Barns, steep roof lines and Dormers. I do hope it is not a square institutional… Read more »

Thanks for your questions Lorraine, The new home, West Perth Village, will continue to be owned by the community of West Perth and operated as a not-for-profit long term care home. The new home has been designed to Ministry standards and the new rooms are substantially bigger at nearly 300ft and basic rooms at nearly 450ft! It is a huge difference from current room sizes! The home’s name was chosen by a large cross-section of residents from the West Perth area. The new home will definitely honour the memory of Charles Ritz in a significant way (details to follow) that… Read more »
